New store will feature two in-store restaurants, kefir smoothie blends, specialty marshmallows

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (May 17, 2017) – Whole Foods Market’s Waverly store, at 7221 Waverly Walk Avenue in South Charlotte, will feature two in-store restaurants, kefir smoothies, and specialty marshmallows when it opens its doors with a bread-breaking ceremony at 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday, May 23. The store, designed using vibrant colors and reclaimed materials to create a unique shopping experience for the entire family, will offer the highest quality natural and organic products, including fresh produce, meat, seafood and prepared foods.

“Whole Foods Market Waverly will include many new and locally sourced and seasonal products that meet our high quality standards,” said Ruben Duran, the Waverly store’s team leader. “Whether you come for the kefir smoothies, the Yuzu chicken ramen at Kei Jei Kitchen, or the toasted coconut marshmallows, the store will be a new gathering place for the community.”

Every item sold in the store meets Whole Foods Market’s rigorous quality standards and is free of artificial flavors, colors, sweeteners, preservatives and hydrogenated fats.

The 40,000-square-foot store includes:

  • The Queen’s Pearl restaurant, which specializes in seafood dishes and will offer a variety of wine and beer, as well as North Carolina oysters, fish tacos and lobster rolls.
  • Kei Jei Kitchen, which features Korean and Japanese street food, including ramen, gyoza, and bubble tea.
  • Toasted coconut, strawberry and espresso chocolate marshmallows made fresh in the store.
  • Five varieties of kefir smoothie blends, including Tropikale Madness, Hawaiian Gold and Berry Banana.
  • Numerous in-house specialties: brûléed s’more tartlets, smoked swordfish bacon and salmon candy, and hand-tossed, wood-fired pizza.
  • A mezzanine level that offers indoor and outdoor seating, as well as a community room.

The community is invited to join Whole Foods Market Waverly for a Bluegrass and BBQ event in front of the store on Saturday, May 20, from 4 to 7 p.m. The celebration will feature barbecue, bluegrass music, and plenty of fun for the whole family – even the four-legged members! All proceeds from the event will benefit Sustain Charlotte, which, as part of its overall mission to address sustainability challenges in the rapidly growing Queen City, is working to ensure that fresh and nutritious food is available in all neighborhoods.
