The idea for Birdi Boutique began in January 2020. But due to COVID-19, owners Nicole and Josh Ellis decided to wait and open their storefront in July of 2020 at Waverly. The name “Birdi” comes from Josh’s love for birds. They chose the word “Bird” and decided to put a “girlie” twist on it.

At Birdi, you can find anything from jackets and shoes to scarves and dresses. You’ll also be able to find an array of cute basic tees for everyday wear. Sizes range from XS-2XL. Nicole says that size is just a number at Birdi and they make sure that your clothes will look good and make you feel fabulous.

Nicole Ellis and her sister originally had a boutique in Red Stone, South Carolina. They enjoyed it and thought it was a great adventure in which they learned so much and did great things in the community. Then, their lives took different paths when her sister moved back to California where they’re originally from. Nicole’s sister has always been the fashion designer in the family and has taught her all she knows.

Nicole’s battle with ovarian cancer motivated her to give back to her community through fashion. She believes that dressing up is important for feeling confident and empowered. Birdi Boutique is a place to allow any age, race, size or gender feel confident, strong, beautiful and able to conquer the world.

“Teal Diva, a local ovarian/cervical cancer organization run by Shannon Routh, provided me with emotional support during my time and to be able to give back to them and support in different community activities is a blessing,” Nicole said.

Birdi takes pride in carrying clothing lines that are locally made. You can find clothing lines that are made in the United States as well as made in North Carolina and in Charlotte itself.

Birdi believes that it’s all about supporting those who support you and uplifting and empowering the women amongst us.

Birdi Boutique is a family business and Nicole’s daughters Emma and Maddie love to be a part of and have much say in what comes into the store. But Nicole’s husband Josh is the one who keeps them grounded.

“We are so excited to add Birdi Boutique to the tenant lineup at Waverly,” said Bonnie Little, property manager with Childress Klein. “Birdi’s style and variety of locally made clothing will complement Waverly’s other boutiques.”
